Chief tests out new system

Broxtowe Borough Council’s chief executive went back to the floor with bine men last week to see a new Waste Management System in action.

Ruth Hyde OBE spent the morning with refuse collectors in Awsworth to test drive the new system, which provides real-time information to the council’s contact centre on waste and recycling collections completed in the borough each week.

The Waste Management System has already improved communication between front-line employees and the contact centre, which is now able to handle residents’ enquiries within 30 seconds of a bin collection being reported as completed or missed.

On-board devices installed in 25 vehicles are also helping to improve the efficiency of the refuse and street cleansing services by mapping routes to enable the council to modify rounds to reduce mileage and fuel costs.

Residents reporting a missed bin by text are now instantly advised when the missed bin will be recovered thanks to the new system.
