Company chiefs on fraud rap

Three company directors from a north Derbyshire mobility aids firm have appeared at crown court accused of conspiring to defraud customers.

John Higginson, Vincent Watkinson and Timothy Wright, of Compass Mobility, on Derby Road, Clay Cross, have been charged with conspiracy to defraud and money laundering.

They appeared at York Crown Court, on Friday last week when their case was adjourned until December 21 at the same court.

Higginson (62), of Locko Road, Lower Pilsley, Chesterfield, Watkinson (48), of Boythorpe Road, Chesterfield, and Wright (44), of Goldcrest Drive, Spondon, Derby, have not yet entered pleas and were all granted unconditional bail.

The charge of conspiracy to defraud has also been brought against Compass Mobility as a limited company which sells mobility aids nationwide for disabled and elderly people.

Higginson, Watkinson and Wright were arrested after a complaint from a disabled York woman who had been sold a mobility aid allegedly unfit for purpose and after other complaints including allegations of high-pressure sales tactics.
