Consultation on leisure village plan next weekend

A PUBLIC consultation is being held next weekend over plans to build a huge leisure village in Eastwood.

The director of Oxylane Village – the company heading up the proposals – will be at Giltbrook’s Decathlon store all day Friday and Saturday to show plans and answer people’s questions.

The village is planned for land off the A610 and will comprise a huge Decathlon store, acres of land where people can play sports and host events, and associated buildings and facilities such as changing rooms and restaurants.

Facilities at the core of the site include fully-equipped play areas, a huge open park, taster events, multi-use games area and tennis and netball courts.

Oxylane Village director Luke Fillingham said: “Information on the Oxylane Village concept will be available to view and we will be able to answer questions on what it could offer the local community, the job creation prospects and the investment involved.

“Details of the proposed location will also be shared and the plans to work with the local council, sports clubs and schools.

“I welcome people to come and take a look at our plans and ideas.

“I truly think they will be amazed by the whole concept and I want to chat to people to get their input about what they would like to have on-site and to receive their feedback on what is proposed before a formal planning application is submitted.”

Decathlon in Giltbrook will close down if the new village gets the go-ahead.

Mr Fillingham will be in store between 10am and 6pm Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18.

Ten similar leisure villages are already up and running in France, but it would be the first of its kind in the UK.

It will cost £15m and will create over 250 jobs.
