Cost keeping students out of University
Students across Kimberley and Eastwood were celebrating record A-Level results this week, bucking the national trend.
The pass rate at The Kimberley School rose from 95.8 per cent in 2011 to 98.2 per cent in 2012 and headteacher Chris Teal said students’ success was ‘hard earned’, ‘well deserved’ and ‘set them on course for exciting futures’.
Charlotte Winterburn gained the highest grades enabling her to secure a place at the Royal Veterinary College.
Other high flyers were Cole Marriott and Tim Mallard who will both study Maths at Edinburgh University and Nottingham University respectively, and Alice Carter who will be going on to do a degree in Ancient History.
In year 12, every student who took Maths at AS level got a grade A and Mr Teal said this was a ‘remarkable statistic by any standard’.
The headteacher said: “Our students have excelled once again.
“They are leaving us to begin a variety of courses including teaching and nursing in a number of different locations around the country and we wish them all well.
“University is not the only route to success and several of our Year 13 students have already started exciting employment opportunities.
“We are proud of all their achievements and confident they will remain outstanding ambassadors for the town of Kimberley and this school whatever their chosen path in life might be.”
Eastwood Comprehensive also saw a sharp rise in results with the number of students receiving A and B grades up 14 per cent and 37 per cent of them picking up at least one A grade.
Amongst the top achievers were Deanna Roe, Luke Burton and Jack Drury.
Headteacher Mark Pickford said: “I am delighted with the achievement of students across such a wide range of courses.
“Our future is in safe hands with this remarkable group of young people.
“My congratulations go to them all and their families.”
