Council cleans up silver prize
Broxtowe Borough Council Street Cleaners pick up awards
Kimberley has been hailed as having one of the tidiest streets in the country after the council cleaned up at a national awards ceremony.
The authority received national recognition at the Clean Britain Awards for its ‘five star’ street cleaning service when it picked up the Silver Award in the medium population authority category for the cleanliness of the borough’s streets.
And judges saved special praise for Main Street in Kimberley which received a perfect 100 per cent score in the independent assessment.
Cabinet member for Environment at Broxtowe Borough Council, Cllr Stan Heptinstall, said: “The national recognition received at the prestigious Clean Britain Awards is a fantastic achievement which recognises the Broxtowe Borough Council’s commitment to maintaining such high standards of cleanliness on the borough’s streets.
“The award is a credit to the dedication of those council employees who work tirelessly to ensure local people have a clean and tidy borough that they can be proud of.”

The assessment process involved anonymous, independent inspections which were carried out earlier this year in Beeston, Bilborough, Brinsley, Eastwood, Kimberley and Nuthall.
Assessors noted the high standard of cleanliness across the range of sites.
Council representatives travelled to Birmingham last week to collect the awards from BAFTA award winning comedian and impressionist, Alistair McGowan.
A total of nine local authorities received awards at the presentation ceremony.
