AN AWSWORTH man is set to captain a cruise ship around the Scottish islands.

Chief officer Richard Heaton will be joint master of the 2,000-tonne Hebridean Princess.

He joined travel firm Hebridean Island Cruises in 2002 and was present on both occasions that The Queen chartered the cruise ship for holidays around the Western Isles.

Group operations director Mike Deegan said: “It’s with great pride that we announce Richard’s promotion. Having been with the company for over ten years it’s always important to recognise home-grown talent.”
