Developers are set to begin extra care

Developers are about to be appointed to create a new extra-care home in Eastwood.

Kier Construction and Ashley House will head the £20m project at old Walker Street school site.

The development will include 140 one to two bedroom apartments and 30 extra care units with communal facilities such as a hair dressing salon, cafe, well-being clinic, fitness room, library and IT studio.

People from the wider community will also be encouraged to use the services.

Extra care is an extension to traditional supported housing where older people can live independently with care staff are on-site for 24 hours a day.
