Driver robbed in row over an alleged injury
A DRIVER was robbed by two men who had demanded compensation after accusing the motorist of running over one of their feet.
Aaron Head and Christopher Wright threatened and assaulted the driver, emptied his wallet of cash and took his car keys.
Head then demanded a further 50 to be paid the next day.
Judge Jonathan Teare said it must have been a "terrifying experience" for the driver.
"You were shouting at him, threatening him. It was a thoroughly unpleasant incident," said the judge.
Nottingham Crown Court heard the driver, Joshua Buckley, was on a road in Eastwood on July 3 when he recognised a man called Mr Marshall.
Mr Marshall was standing with Head, 18, and Wright, 22. Mr Buckley drove over to talk to them.
When he pulled away again, Head and Wright accused him of running over one of their feet, but Mr Buckley said he had not, the court heard.
After Mr Buckley parked nearby, Head and Wright caught up with him and demanded money. Mr Marshall tried to intervene, but Head and Wright saw Mr Buckley's wallet and snatched it from him. Wright punched Mr Buckley on the right side of his face.
When demanding the further 50, Head threatened to smash Mr Buckley's car, his house, and to hurt his family.
When interviewed by police, Head denied hitting Mr Buckley or taking any money.
Wright also alleged that Mr Buckley had been drunk and ran over Head's foot.
The court heard the robbery was completely out of character for Wright, and happened when he was drunk. He had no previous convictions and had been working since he was 14.
The court heard Head had convictions for affray and possession of a Class C drug.
Judge Teare gave both defendants 50-week jail sentences, suspended for two years, after they pleaded guilty to robbery.
Wright, of Oak Drive, Eastwood, must also do 200 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months and pay 1,000 compensation to Mr Buckley.
"There's no reason Mr Buckley should be out of pocket for what you did," said Judge Teare.
Head, of Williamson Gardens, Langley Mill, has been put on a curfew from 7am to 7pm for six months and must attend a probation service programme called Thinking Skills.
