DVD rental store escapes axe once again
Blockbusters in South Street, Ilkeston.
Ilkeston’s Blockbuster stores is to remain open despite the administrators’ decision to close a further 164 stores.
Blockbuster went into administration on January 16 and days later it was announced that 129 of its stores would close.
But all the Derbyshire DVD and games rental stores, including Ilkeston’s in South Street and Long Eaton’s in Cross Retail Park, have escaped the axe on both occasions.
Administrators Deloitte said that the remaining stores will continue to trade as usual whilst administrators continue negotiations with potential bidders.
But Lee Manning, joint administrator, hinted last week, that the stores were still not safe.
“We have continued to review the performance of individual stores since our appointment a month ago and have concluded that further closures are necessary in order to restructure the company for sale,” he said.
Before it went into administration Blockbuster employed 4,190 staff across 528 UK stores.
