Eastwood pupils complete Go4set course

SCHOOLS in Eastwood and Kimberley have been working on a project to inspire budding scientists and engineers.

Pupils at Eastwood Comprehensive School and The Kimberley School have just completed a ten week course called Go4set where they have been working with energy companies.

Students at Eastwood have been working with Eon on an energy conservation project and students at Kimberley have been working local firm, ITT Water and Wastewater.

The projects involve looking at water or energy usage in a building or part of the school and assessing how wastage could be reduced or other sources utilised.

Paul Abbott a teacher at the Kimberley School said: "To be working with a commercial company on a project with direct implications for the environment gives the students a really wonderful insight into what a career in science or engineering might be like."

Pupils are going to a celebration and assessment day at Nottingham Trent University next week where they will be presenting their conclusions to judges who will be awarding prizes in best project, best teamwork and innovation.

Go4set, which stands for Go for Science, Engineering and Technology,is designed to enocurage students interest in the subjects and is funded by East Midlands Development Agency (emda).
