Eastwood estate agent being 'forced out of town'

AN ESTATE agent in Eastwood has hit out at the council after they refused a change of use application two months after he had already moved into an empty Nottingham Road shop and set up business.

Sanjeev Guy applied to Broxtowe Borough Council to change the use of the shop on Eastwood's main shopping street before the company moved in four months ago.

The manager of Home Lets told the Advertiser that all of the application was submitted and there were no objections when posters went up informing the public of a change.

He was told by the council if he didn't hear any more from them he was free to move in and set up shop.

He said: "It's ridiculous, we went through everything, all the paperwork, the public notices and then two months after we move in we're told the application was refused.

"Now I'm looking at spending another 300-400 on an appeal that's just unnecessary.

"People don't want to see empty shop fronts but that's what this will be if the decision doesn't change.

"We've been here for four months and ever since we opened we've been really busy.

"We're making a difference in the community but try telling the council that."

Broxtowe Borough Council had failed to respond as the Advertiser went to press.
