Eastwood pupils pen single for Haiti survivors

A YOUNG rock band at Eastwood Comprehensive School has written, recorded and produced a song to raise money for Haiti.

Joe Radomski, Josh Housley and Chris Rowe, also known as rock band Memo, wrote the lyrics to 'Volume', recorded it in a music room at the school and sold copies of the CD to fellow pupils raising 60 for the Haiti Appeal.

Singer Joe, 13, said: "We decided because of the disaster it would be a good idea to try and help people out. We had heard about other bands doing it.

"It was good looking into the recording side of it. It was a great experience."

The boys, in year eight, formed the band about a year ago and regularly practice and perform at the Assemblies of God Church at Hilltop where they meet with mentors every Friday night as part of a council youth programme.

They have played several times at the school and they also performed at the town's acoustic lounge bar last summer as part of the Eastwood Art's Festival.

Joe's mum Bridget Radomski said: "They had already written it and were performing it at school events and it was going down well so they thought they should record it.

"It's been a learning curve for them and they've done it all by themselves.

"I'm really proud of him (Joe). It's amazing really to write a song themselves.

"It's easy to do cover versions, but they've managed to produce a catchy song all by themselves which is quite clever."

The boys, who all live in Eastwood, have also written another song as a band called 'Looking for the Light'.
