Eco-homes bid set to be refused
Proposals to build 20 affordable eco-homes on former allotment land in Staveley have been recommended for refusal by council planners.
The Cascade Partnerships application proposed building the houses on disused allotment land off Frecheville Street and it had the full support of site owners Staveley Town Council.
But planners at Chesterfield Borough Council have found that there is not enough evidence to suggest that there is insufficient demand in the area for allotment plots and say that the development contravenes local planning policy.
More than a dozen letters of objection to the plans were received from local residents, who stated that people have been refused allotments on the site by the town council in the last few years, meaning it has fallen into disuse despite demand for allotment plots.
Staveley Town Council had said that the development would put the land to good use, stopping it being a target for fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour, while providing affordable family homes.
The houses would be built to the highest environmentally-friendly standards and provide a mix of rental and shared ownership housing.
A decision on the application will be made at a planning meeting on Monday at 3pm at Chesterfield Town Hall.
