Family raises over £1,000

A family handed over a cheque to the Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance after a fundraising day in memory of their mum raked in hundreds more than they expected.

The Gration family held a fundraising day to raise £200 for a plaque in memory of their mum – but ended up raising over £1,000 thanks to generous donations from family and friends.

Graham Gration got emotional as he explained why the fundraiser had such a good turn out and why they raised so much more than they expected.

“Jackie had a lot of friends and they thought a lot of her, and just wanted to get involved,” he said.

“We had a target of about £200, but everyone just got on board with it,” he added.

The fundraiser was held at the Palmerston Arms pub in Greenhills Road, Eastwood.

There was a tombola, an auction, a cake stall, charity football matches, a car boot sale and barbecue and auction prizes included a caravan holiday in Skegness and a spa day.

The family presented a cheque for £863 to Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Air Ambulance this week.

The plaque will be put in the churchyard at St Marys Church in Greasley where Jackie’s ashes lay.

Eastwood Fire Station, where Graham works, donated £160 to the total fund.

“I am a fireman and I have seen what they do. And they don’t get any funding from anywhere,” said Mr Gration.

Graham, 54, wanted to thank Palmerston Arms, Natalie Hill who made all the cakes and the football teams who took part in the charity matches.

Jackie died of cancer last month aged 52.
