Fast trains to skirt the M1 motorway

Super-fast trains could be skirting just east of Selston by 2032 according to maps released this week highlighting phase two of the controversial HS2 high speed rail line.

The proposed route goes north from Birmingham along two branches, with new stations at Toton near Nottingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and Manchester Airport.  If the preferred route of the £32billion project is approved, it will run alongside the M1 motorway as it passes the village.

Many councillors have welcomed the news but others have expressed concerns such as excessive noise and loss of countryside.”
