Festival fun for Lawrence fans

A host of events took place this week for the DH Lawrence Festival in Eastwood.

As well as churches open days and free entry to historic buildings of interest, the Nottingham Bluecoat Singers put in a concert at Colliers Wood in Moorgreen, there was a hog roast and line dance at Beauvale Priory, a creatuive worting workshop at Durban House, a reading session for kids at the library, film screenings and guided walks around local countryside known as ‘Lawrence land’.

Eastwood MP Gloria De Piero made a special guest appearance at the heritage centre dressed in Victorian clothing.

“The festival is a really special event and I was delighted when I asked to come along and get involved even if it did mean dressing up!,” she said.

“As a patron of the festival and as the town’s MP I’ll always do everything I can to support it and make sure that our area’s rich cultural heritage is recognised and celebrated.”

This week, starting this weekend, there will be Victorian wash day sessions at the heritage centre. Also at the weekend there will be a guided walk past scenes that inspired Lawrence to write The White Peacock, a mining heritage bus tour, a Victoria afternoon tea and Lawrence exhibitions and lectures.
