Firm defying recession
An Ilkeston manufacturing firm has said it is defying the recession as it expands across the Midlands.
AB Components, based in the Manners Industrial Estate, bought Shropshire firm Talbot Components on New Year’s Day.
The Ilkeston firm specialises in filters for the motor, marine, agricultural and construction industries.
Managing director James Edgar founded the company six years ago with a plan to expand into the West Midlands.
A spokesman for the Ilkeston firm said: “Aligning the two companies will offer all current and future customers a wider range of products and continual competitive prices due to the increased buying power the acquisition brings.”
The deal will expand the company’s nationwide sales, it hopes.
Talbot Components, which has traded for 25 years, is now a subsidiary of AB Components.
It has a trade counter offering consumable products, including oils, wiper blades, hand cleaners, wipes, latex gloves and cable ties.
The firm is one of a number of businesses beating the economic climate in Ilkeston, including Atlas Composites and Derwent Analytics.
