Four children hurt in rush hour car crash
Four children and a pensioner were taken to hospital after a car careered onto the pavement following a crash with another vehicle.
The smash happened during morning rush hour on Monday, March 15, as the children, aged 12 and 13, were walking to Larkfield Junior School in Nuthall.
A stretch of Larkfield Road was shut until the afternoon while police examined the scene.
The school children were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre, in Nottingham, along with a 75-year-old driver, but they were all said to have minor injuries.
Two dogs were also involved in the collision and have been taken to the RSPCA.
One suffered serious injuries.
The vehicles involved in the incident were a silver Toyota Avensis and a black Mitsubishi Warrior jeep.
Cllr Philip Owen, cabinet member for children and young people and county councillor for Nuthall, said: "We are always looking at ways to improve safety and we will carefully review the circumstances surrounding this incident in case there is any action we can take.
"We are already working with the school, parents and pupils and have introduced a school travel plan to look at ways to improve road safety and encourage more pupils to walk to school."
