Funding secured for Langley Mill
LANGLEY Mill is set to be transformed thanks to thousands of pounds of Government funding.
As part of the Connecting Communities programme, 77,000 will be injected into the community next year after an announcement by Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, John Denham.
Langley Mill is the only place in Derbyshire that will get the funding
and the success is due to the input of a wide range of individuals, schools, churches and businesses as part of the bid.
Cllr Jo Ward, who represents Langley Mill on Amber Valley Borough Council, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to bits. The money will be put to good use as there are lots of things that are desperate for financial assistance.
"I have been fighting the case for Langley Mill so much and suddenly the penny is dropping. We have a great community but need financial help."
Langley Mill is already set for a massive jobs boost due to the building of a new Asda superstore which is set to be constructed next year.
Now people with ideas on how to make the area a better place are asked to get involved with the Connecting Communities programme.
A spokesman for the programme said the money would be used in a number of ways, including building up the skills and confidence of residents to act as community leaders and employing two people, until March 31, in a bid to get more residents involved in making the area better.
It will also be spent on advice on dealing with unemployment, and how best to tackle crime.
Anyone who is keen to be involved should contact Joe Dugdale of Rural Action Derbyshire on 01629 824797.
