Fundraising family throw final event

The parents of Amelia-Rose Sutton have thanked everyone who has supported their charity efforts as they reached the £10,000 mark.

Amelia was born four weeks ealry and with brain damage after laying on her umbilical cord in the womb. She was just 16-months-old when she died in April after contracting pneumonia following an operation.

Before she died her mum and dad, Louise Toplis and Adrian Sutton, set up HART - Help Amelia Rose Trust - to raise cash to pay for sensory equipment for their little girl.

Tragically the summer house, complete with lighting equipment was completed just two weeks before Amelia died.

Her parents decided to continue fundraising in her memory and donate cash raised to the Puffin Ward at the Royal Derby Hospital for the refurbishment of the sunshine deck.

Louise said: “Obviously we were devastated when Amelia died but we knew we wanted to carry on fundraising.

“It gave us something to focus on and we just wanted to do something as a way of thanking all the doctors and nurses at the hospital who did so much for Amelia and for us.”

Fundraising events for HART included a sponsored Zumbathon, raffles, a psychic night and many more.

Earlier this year the couple made the difficult decision to call it a day and finish fundraising after the memorial night that they held last weekend.

More than £2,600 was raised on the night, held at the Festival Inn, tipping the total amount raised over the past year to more than £10,500.

Louise added: “It was really hard to decide to stop but we feel like we’ve done our bit now.

“We have loved all the fundraising, we’ve almost averaged collecting a £1,000 a month since we started which is unbelievable.

“People really have rallied round and been so generous since we started, we can’t thank them enough for all of their support.”
