‘Grave concerns’ over train plans

A high-speed train line running from the Midlands to London will slice through the centre of Nuthall if plans go ahead, the Advertiser can reveal.
The HS2 line would go through land off Woodhouse Way – where plans are being put in place to build 700 new houses – and several properties in Nottingham Road would be bulldozed.
More than 200 people packed a public meeting in Nuthall last weekend and were queuing out of the door to have their say.
Residents expressed ‘grave concern’ about the proposal, according to a local member of Nottinghamshire County Council.
Cllr Philip Owen said: “Residents are gravely concerned about it.
“A few said it would be better to have that than 700 houses, but the general consensus was people were really worried.
“Several residents in Nottingham Road have received letters about the plans and have been warned their houses could be knocked down. They’ve been left in limbo, not knowing whether they’ll have a home or not.”
Cllr Owen, who represents the town at both parish and county-council level, said the meeting was originally organised to update the community on the controversial plans for the new houses.
It was also to adv ise them on the process if they wanted to object to building on GreenBelt land.
But with the Government announcing plans for the HS2 train just days before, hundreds of people turned up with the train line on their minds.
Cllr Owen said the announcement about HS2 has thrown doubt on plans for the Woodhouse Way properties, and developers are now in talks with Broxtowe Borough Council and HS2.
Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry attended the meeting.
