More than 40 exhibitors and hundreds of jobseekers were set to attend an employment fair organised by Erewash MP Jessica Lee this week.

The event, held as the Advertiser went to press, was designed to help get Erewash’s unemployed back into work or training and to showcase industry in the area.

Ms Lee said: “I organised the Erewash Jobs Fair to bring together employers from a range of sectors as well as colleges and training organisations to be able to showcase what opportunities they have available.

“We’ve worked hard to encourage anyone looking for work or a change of direction to come alongand see what opportunities are on offer.

“There will be advice on training and skills and seminars on apprenticeships and advice for employers too.”

Ms Lee and the event sponsors were hoping to seepeople of all ages and with a range of qualifications at the fair.

Ms Lee added: “The event isn’t just about young people although there is a high level of youth unemployment, it is about showing people what Erewash has to offer.

“There are companies at the fair that have vacancies that they want to fill.

“Real jobs are on offer as well as opportunities for people to retrain or sign up to college courses. There is something for everyone.”

Exhibitors at the free event include being held at the Novotel Hotel, Long Eaton some of the wider area’s larger employers such as Roll-Royce, Bombarbier and JD Weatherspoons as well as Erewash firms TecQuipment, Derwent Analytics and Rayden Engineering.

The event is part of an Erewash Local Strategic Partnership scheme to help young people find work or places on training courses and apprenticeships.

The organisation wants to find 60 jobs beofre the end of the month long campaign.

See next week’s Advertiser for more details about jobs on offer as a result of the scheme.
