Ilkeston train station: an artist’s impression

This is what Ilkeston train station could look like if the latest bid to the Government is successful.

Last month we reported that Derbyshire County Council had made a bid for the remaining £4.5m to finally see the town’s station dream come true.

This is the best chance the town has ever had of winning the cash for the station, at Ilkeston Junction, and we should find out by the end of this month.

In this picture the road coming up from the bottom of the picture is Millership Way, with Station Road to the right of the station.

The car park appears to have access from both roads, just before the roundabout which connects to the A6096 Awsworth bypass.

The Ilkeston Advertiser has been running a campaign since 2010 to see a station return to the town – the largest in the UK connected to the rail network but without a station.

Erewash MP Jessica Lee, who brought Ilkeston’s plight to the attention of previous Transport Secretary Justine Greening last year, joined us as at Westmninster when we handed over a petition of more than 1,500 names to 10 Downing Street.
