Kimberley snapper to help fellow cancer victims
A PROFESSIONAL photographer who has spent the last year and a half battling cancer is launching a free service for people who are seriously ill.
Wayne Brown wants to offer free photo shoots to people suffering serious or terminal illness to give something back following his own personal ordeal.
Mr Brown, of Clive Close, Kimberley, said: "I want to help out and give something back and they are people who are struggling. A lot of people lose loved ones and don't have any photos of them to remember them by."
The photographer, who is calling the service Healing Hearts, came up with the idea while he was having treatment for cancer.
"I had plenty of time to think about where my career was going and what
I wanted to do" he said. "I really want to give something back and help people out. When you've had cancer it really brings things home to you. It's quite an eye-opener."
Mr Brown started his career doing wedding, portraits and fashion photography aged 24. He ran a shop on Mansfield Road in Eastwood during the 80s and then opened up a shop on Nottingham Road two years ago.
He closed it down when he was diagnosed with cancer in August 2008 and is now doing little bits of work while he recovers.
The 50-year-old is a member of the Society for Wedding and Portraits Photography and has won dozens of awards.
Last year, while he was having treatment, he submitted 11 pictures to one of the society's nationwide competitions and every one was awarded either bronze, silver or gold.
The two gold pictures, one head and shoulders fashion photograph and one of Elvaston Castle near Derby, were put through to the society's annual convention in London last month. Mr Brown said entrants had to be at the event to win a prize and sadly he could not make it because of his illness.
The Healing Hearts service will include a photo shoot and a large 8 x 12 print.
