LANDLORD LEADS BATTLE AGAINST CRIME

Miles Murphy

Miles Murphy

AN Eastwood pub landlord has received a prestigious national award for his ‘tireless’ efforts to unite licensed premises and reduce alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour in the town.

Landlord of the Wellington Inn Miles Murphy was one of just two landlords nationwide who won the Pubwatch Outstanding Contribution Award for his voluntary work to help reduce alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour in pubs.

Mr Murphy set up the Eastwood, Kimberley and District Pubwatch back in 2001 and it now has 40 licensed premises as members.

The landlord of 20 years said: “I’m very honoured. There’s an awful lot of other people who were nominated and a lot of licensees out there who do a good job.”

Mr Murphy said he set the group up because there were problems in Eastwood and landlords were getting ‘fed up with it’.
