Langley Mill dad writes epic sci-fi novels
A casino bouncer turned sci-fi author is on the brink of becoming a cult hero – as he prepares to release his second novel.
Langley Mill man Daniel Longdon spends his nights watching the doors of the Genting Riverlights Club in Derby, but by day - the 43-year-old is a prolific writer.
And now his second book in a series of epic sagas surrounding a civil war on a distant planet has attracted the attention of national book chain Waterstones.
He said: “It’s set on a planet 6,000 years in the future, where society has taken a down turn.
“It’s about one man’s struggle through a time of political and social upheaval.”
Dad-of-two Daniel began writing three years ago after his son, then aged five, was having difficulties at school with a bully.
At first he began to write about his feelings of social injustice - but within days he had discovered a knack for a good sci-fi plot and conjured up a tale involving lead character Jason De Silva and his struggle against oppression in the land of Albion.
He said: “I don’t even know how it happened. I started typing one morning, and before long I had written 400 pages on a typewriter.”
Now on his second book Retribution, which follows on from Devastation released last year by Gingernut Books, Daniel is to hold a book signing at the Nottingham city Waterstones on Saturday, July 14. The book company says it is considering stocking Retribution, currently in the editing stage, nationwide.
And Daniel says there are two more books in the series ready for release.
He said: “I’m pretty much addicted to writing now!”
