The Mayor of Broxtowe presented Advertiser reporter Laura Rands with cash raised to plant a commemorative Jubilee tree in Eastwood.

Town folk have been making donations at the Broxtowe Borough Council cash office in Nottingham Road ever since the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee back in June.

And tree will now be planted in the town’s Coronation Park to commemorate the milestone.

Broxtowe Borough Council agreed to match fund whatever the Advertiser raised in donations.

Coronation park in Eastwood is a jubilee park making it a fitting location for the milestone anniversary.

The tree will be planted some time during the winter.

It will count towards one of the 1,000 trees that Broxtowe Borough Council will plant borough-wide over the next five years.

Tim Crawford, parks and environment manager at the council, said: “We were happy to match fund any tree planting as it helps us towards our goal of planting 100,000 trees over five years.

“Last winter saw us reach the half way target and we look forward to planting more over the next few years.”

Keep an eye out on the Broxtowe Borough Council website to find out where the latest trees are being planted and what schools and community groups are getting involved in it all.
