Mayor takes blind walk

The Mayor of Broxtowe Margaret Handley will take a blindfold walk with Guide Dogsto find out more about the challenges faced by local people with sight loss as part of Guide Dog week next week.

On Tuesday, October 9, Cllr Margaret Handley will complete the “Walk my Way challenge” by walking from Beeston Town Hall at 10.30am to Broadgate Park blindfolded using a white cane.

She will also be accompanied by guide dog owners, guide dog volunteers and Vicky Coleman, Community Engagement Officer for Guide Dogs.

Councillor Handley, said: “It really important that our town centres and public areas are accessible to all so this awareness raising event is an opprtunity to demonstrate the issues faced by the visually impaired.

“I hope it will help us all to better understand the challenges faced by those with visual impairments and it will also enable to find ways to improve things.

“These volunteers do invaluable work and I am pleased to have the opportunity to take part in such a simple activity if it will help them and the vital work they do.”
