Cash is being pumped into Eastwood and Kimberley in the run up to Christmas to improve footfall into the towns.

Almost £29,000 will be spent on street entertainment and free carparking for shoppers across all four towns in the borough to encourage more custom and support local traders.

The news comes just two weeks after the Advertiser revealed new businesses in our high streets would be given £5,000 by Broxtowe Borough Council, and the borough had been awarded £10,000 Government cash for improvements in Eastwood, Kimberley and Stapleford.

Free car parking will be available at all of the council’s car parks for each of the five Saturdays in December and there will be street entertainers, choirs, carol singers and other activities every Friday and Saturday lunch times between December 7 and 22.

£15,000 of the money came from the tram project, £5,000 from Henry Boot and £9,000 from Broxtowe Borough Council.

The council’s deputy leader Pat Lally said: “The Christmas trading period is of considerable importance to most businesses and it’s currently very difficult.”

The three hour maximum stay still applies in all short stay car parks and normal charges apply Mondays to Fridays.
