The Dora Phillips Hall was opened on September 15 1962 by Mrs J I Robertson, deputising for her mother, Mrs CW Phillips, wife of the general manager of Barber Walker and Co.

Mrs Phillips had been a prominent benefactor towards the building fund.

The Girls Centre Committee raised money to build ameeting place for youth organisations.
