Opinions wanted about chapel

Kimberley town councillors will be at the next week’s farmers market to ask the public over what changes they would like to see made at the cemetery chapel.

The town council is renovating the chapel so it can be regularly used by the community, and they want to know what type of facilities residents are after.

Last year council chairman Jim McDonald told the Advertiser he was looking into providing somewhere community groups, such as the history society, could meet and a place where civil wedding ceremonies could take place.

Plans have been looked at since 2009, when some town councillors spoke about spending £35,000 on the makeover, and others disagreed, saying it was too much to spend in a tough economic climate.

Councillors will be at the market in Toll Bar Square on Saturday, February 2 between 9am and 1pm to gauge public opinion.
