Police dogs die in hot car

Two police dogs died in a hot vehicle parked outside Nottinghamshire Police's headquarters.

Police called an RSPCA officer to the Sherwood Lodge headquarters, in Arnold, at 2.15pm on Tuesday after the two German shepherd dogs were found dead.

A vet is carrying out postmortem tests to establish how they died.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: "The incident has been voluntarily referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission."

It is unclear how long the dogs had been in the car on the hottest day in Notts for three years – with temperatures rising to 29.3 degrees celsius.
