Possible re-design of plans

A group wanting a ‘sympathetic design’ for houses being built at the Kimberley Brewery Site are celebrating after planners agreed the latest application was ‘not up to scratch’.

The Save Our Brewery Site group have always said the houses planned for the Hardy Street area were ‘substandard’.

Planning officers at Broxtowe Borough Council have now told them they agree changes need to be made to the application to make it a bit more ‘in-keeping’ with the area.

Group chairman Darren Warner said: “It’s great news. It’s not about blocking the application altogether. It’s about getting the builders to be a bit more apathetic about what their responsibilities are and being more sympathetic to the area.”

Mr Warner said planners agreed some details - such as the type of bricks and windows being used – needed re-looking at.

“It’s about the base core materials. There’s 100 different types of red brick you can get and it’s important you get the right one. The plan was for bog-standard terraced houses. They had made very little effort to make it a special case. It’s opposite a listed building in a conservation area and it’s been deemed a conservation area for a reason.”

The proposals need to now through the planning committee where a final decision will be made about whether to alter ‘The Field Site’ application - one of six at the site.
