A special commemorative tree will be planted in Coronation Park, Eastwood after Advertiser readers dug deep for our Jubilee Jam Jar campaign.

Advertiser editor Peter Hemmett asked readers to donate their coppers towards the fund so we could plant a tree as a tribute to our Queen and to commemorate her 60th Diamond Jubilee.

Broxtowe Borough Council matched funded our total raised, and the tree will count towards one of the council’s 1,000 trees they plan to plant borough wide over the next five years.

Mr Hemmett said: “I am so pleased we have managed to get enough money together to go ahead and plant this special commemorative tree.

“The Diamond Jubilee this weekend will remain a special day in history and it’s nice that we can do something in this area to properly remember it by.

“I want to thank Advertiser readers for their generosity and also Broxtowe Borough Council for very kindly match funding what we raised.”

Tim Crawford, parks and environment manager at the council, said: “We were happy to match fund any tree planting as it helps us towards out goal of planting 100,000 trees over five years.

“This winter saw us reach the half way target and we look forward to planting more over the next few years.”

Coronation park in Eastwood is a jubilee park making it a fitting location for the milestone anniversary.

The tree will be planted some time during the autumn.

Keep an eye out on the Broxtowe Borough Council website to find out where the latest trees are being planted and what schoools and community groups are getting involved in it all.
