Rare DH Lawrence paintings on display

Rare paintings by DH Lawrence that have never been seen before will go on display in Eastwood next month.

The DH Lawrence Heritage Centre will exhibit 25 full-sized reproductions of the writer’s paintings for the first time since police seized 13 of the pieces from an exhibition at London’s Warren Gallery in 1929. The pieces were deemed obscene at the time. The exhibition will open on September 6 and will run until November, as part of the annual DH Lawrence Festival.

The paintings were exhibited to over 12,000 people before being taken off display in 1929.

Many of the originals are believed to be in the United States, although their whereabouts is unknown.
