Recycle your tree to raise money for charity
If like most people you are trying to stick to your New Year’s resolution to recycle more, make sure your Christmas tree doesn’t just end up in the bin.
Take your tree to Giltbrook Recycling Centre and raise money for charity at the same time.
For every 50 tonnes of Christmas trees received at recycling centres across Nottinghamshire, £100 will be donated to the Nottingham Hospitals Charity.
Kevin Parker is the regional communications manager for Veolia Environmental Services – the county council’s waste contractors.
He said: “If you have taken our New Year Resolution challenge to be greener, then our Tree-cycling campaign is a fantastic way to begin!”
From the recycling centres, the trees are either chipped to make paths in parks and gardens, or shredded for composting.
Christmas trees, along with any other green garden waste, can be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centres throughout the year.
Cllr Carol Pepper, chair of Nottinghamshire County Council said: “The Nottingham Hospitals Charity is an excellent charity and we hope to raise as much money as possible for patients of the Cystic Fibrosis Centre and their families.
“I would urge all residents to recycle their real Christmas tree to help make a real difference.”
The Nottingham Hospitals Charity is Cllr Carol Pepper’s chosen charity for the year.
Around six million Christmas trees are sold in the UK every year,
The nearest recycling centre is Gilt Hill, Giltbrook. For opening times visit www.veolia.co.uk/nottinghamshire or call on 0115 850 5900.
