Residents speak out over plan

People living close to the American Adventure site have revealed their concerns about how the Lakeside development will affect their quality of life.
Carole Heyman lives on Hassock Lane North in Shipley and revealed her opposition to the number of houses planned.
“Once it has been built it will be just like another Shipley View,” she said. “Plus there is just one access to the site through Pit Lane. Heanor Road is bad enough now as it is.”
And Joy Tunstall, of Hassock Lane South, was also unhappy with the scale of the project.
“If this is going to take 10 years then we are going to have 10 years of vehicles with building materials coming up and down. It just beggar’s belief.
“It can already take us ages to get out onto Hassock Lane.”
One couple, Margaret and Brian Hobby, came from Kirk Hallam to find out more about the plan but were also disappointed at what they saw.
“I just don’t know why they need 400 homes in the area,” Mrs Hobby told the Advertiser.
“There are lots of houses up for sale and not selling so why do we need any more?
“Plus there are lots of brownfield sites and the bottom of Bath Street is a disgrace. Why don’t they put all the housing there?
“I would have liked them to give the whole of this land to the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust because they are doing a fantastic job at Woodside.”
But it was not all negative as Julie Wyer, who lives on Hassock Lane North, said the exhibition had laid a lot of her fears to rest.
Her children attend Michael House School and she thought the school would benefit from the development.
She added: “I’m quite impressed really. We found out more today than a leaflet can tell you.
“People come from all over England to come to Michael House. If they put affordable housing there on its doorstep it is probably a good thing. I’m definitely glad we came down.”
