Road safety bid

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council is bidding for a share of £170m of Government funding so that it can continue to improve safety and reduce congestion on the county’s roads.

The Local Pinch Point Fund was announced in the Government’s 2012 Autumn Statement and was created to help remove bottlenecks on local highway networks which are impeding growth.

Funding is available specifically for schemes which can be delivered quickly and which are aimed at boosting economic growth by tackling barriers on local roads.

Of the £170m it is expected that £160m will be spent outside of London.

The County Council’s transport and highways committee today WED approved a bid for a share of the fund which, if successful, will be used to improve a number of junctions around the Newark, Worksop and Retford areas.

The County Council is committed to improving safety and reducing congestion on Nottinghamshire’s roads, with recent projects including the new £480,000 signal junction at Forest Lane/A60 and the soon-to-be-opened £430,000 signal junction at Rose Cottage on the A614.
