Rumours are rubbished
Supermarket giant Tesco has moved to quash an urban myth that its new Chesterfield superstore is sinking.
The rumours about Tesco Extra on Lockoford Lane have been gathering pace on internet forums and among members of staff.
Forum users have posted messages stating that the store is going to close for two months while work to sort out the problem is done and questions about possible effects on the new Chesterfield FC b2net stadium have also been asked.
But when approached by the Derbyshire Times, Tesco said that there is no truth in the claims.
Tony Fletcher, corporate affairs manager, said: "We've been speaking to engineers and the store manager and these claims about the store sinking are unfounded and it is mischief-making."
