Snake found in tied-up duvet in Eckington

Police in Eckington made a shock discovery in a tied up duvet cover - a snake!

They had been alerted to the duvet by a concerned dog walkero n Gas House Lane, Eckington on the morning of June 17.

After a closer inspection by police it was discovered that a 4ft Boa Constrictor was inside the bundle and had been left there for several days.

Pc James Mirfin of Dronfield Police Station rescued the exotic reptile from the duvet and took it to the Mill Garden Centre at Whittington Moor, where it is still receiving expert care to aid its recovery.

The female snake was found to have teeth puncture wounds from a dog and was suffering from Hyperthermia and was lucky to survive in the cold damp conditions it was left in.

PC Mirfin said: "We would urge persons who may find themselves in a situation where they are no longer able to keep such exotic animals to act responsibly and return them to either the retailer or the RSPCA, and not to endanger the life of the animal or the safety and wellbeing of other residents."
