Staff at an Eastwood company that went into administration last week were laid off on Monday.

More than 150 workers at Beamlight Automotive received letters this week telling them there would be no jobs for them to come back to.

Some of them had worked at the site for more than 30 years.

David Henshaw, a supervisor, was one of them.

He said: “I was gutted. I’ve had to sign on this week and I’ve never been on the dole in my life.

“It’s all over the news about it, but they don’t mention that they’ve not paid us our wages from the last month. They (Beamlight) say it will take four to six weeks to come through. But it’s caused untold amounts of hassle and difficulty.

“It’s disgusting. We’ve been left struggling to pay the bills.

“I’ve had to borrow money off my mum and she’s a pensioner.”

A spokesperson for FRP Advisory, the company’s administrator, said 70 staff will stay at the site working on orders from the firm’s smaller customers, and they are now looking at securing a new buyer.

“We continue our discussions with interested parties who are expressing interest in the business,” said the spokesman.

Staff were sent home on October 15 after being told the firm’s biggest customer, Magna, owed them £400,000.

Magna however deny the claims, saying they had complied with their ‘legal obligation’ and were not responsible for the firm going into administration.
