Success club hits its 100th

A working men’s club in Selston is marking its 100th anniversary next week.

The Jokers – said to be going from strength to strength while other pubs in the town close down – will mark the milestrone with a party on Wednesday.

There will be a singer, buffet and raffle at the bash, which kicks off at 7pm.

A new committee at the club turned its fate around three years ago when it was just weeks away from closure.

Committee member Tracy Barker said: “We really picked it up and got new members.

“Where other pubs are closing down, we’re going from strength to strength.

Committee member Jane Lowe said it was a ‘lovely place’.

“It’s an absolutrely lovely pub. A lovely little place.

“All the other pubs in Selston seem to be up for sale. Its amazing it’s 100 years old.”
