Success all round for Selston students

Six Selston students have graduated from their engineering course with flying colours.

The success of David Stirland, Joe Allard, Jonathan Hotson, Thomas Dudley, Reece Courtney and Sean Taylor Cockayne in Cohort 3 of the Young Apprenticeship scheme means the pass rate of students at Selston Arts and Community College since 2004 remains at 100 per cent.

The Young Apprenticeship engineering course contains theoretic and practical elements, with students completing the equivalent of 50 days work experience during their two years.

Each of the latest graduates gained at least 100 per cent of the Level 2 threshold - five A* to C grades - through the course.

David Stirland will be joining Abacus Lighting with classmate Joe Allard going to e.on, Jonathan Hotson and Thomas Dudley joining Rolls Royce and Reece Courtney and Sean Taylor Cockayne studying for A Levels at Bilborough Sixth Form.

All six will be studying their advanced apprenticeships.

Due to their success, the college at Chapel Road, Selston, is being contacted by local and national engineering companies in an effort to headhunt their YA students.
