Taste of England for visitors

Ugandan visitors got a traditional taste of England when they visited a north Derbyshire school to sample health promotion schemes.

The teachers from the Ugandan Ministry of Education enjoyed a school dinner of roast chicken followed by fresh fruit and yoghurt with pupils at Hunloke Park Primary before finding out about how the children are encouraged to be healthy. The team of five Ugandans have been visiting a number of schools in the area as part of a Health Promoting Schools initiative.

Hunloke headteacher Julie Cadman said: "The children were really excited and keen to tell them what they were doing.

"It's lovely to have the opportunity to welcome the teachers, learn from them and have them learn from us. We've got a lot to share."

The visit built on Hunloke's existing links with Uganda where it has a partner school.

Staff and governors are planning a trip at Easter when they will be looking into the use of energy sources and sustainability as part of a project which will see a return visit by their Ugandan counterparts in the summer.
