The groups that picked up grants

More than 20 local community groups were handed grants by Eastwood Town Council this week.

Town Mayor Brian Griffin handed out cheques to representatives from 22 groups who do good work in the community at a meeting on Monday night.

He said: “It made me feel very proud. The work they do all adds to those threads within our town.

“It’s not a lot we give them, but everything helps and they appreciate it.

“It’s great to recognise these people, and it really does make me very proud.”

Brian Fretwell is the treasurer for Eastwood NeighbourHood Watch and was presented with one of the grant cheques.

He said: “I was very grateful. I think all of the organisations recognised on the night were very pleased to get that little bit extra.

“Times are very hard and it’s very much appreciated.

“I know that the pot of money the town council gets becomes smaller and smaller each year and the demand for it gets greater. It’s very difficult.”

He said the money will be spent on funding cards and leaflets to put in people’s windows to stop unwanted callers.
