Victim suffers heart attack days after brutal break-in
The elderly victim of a brutal break-in at her Kimberley home has suffered a heart attack just days after her terrifying ordeal.
Balwhinder Dhami was repeatedly punched and kicked, sprayed in the face with detergent and threatened with a knife when a gang of men forced their way into her Basset Close home on Saturday.
The 69-year-old suffered a heart attack in the early hours of this morning and immediately underwent three and a half hours of emergency surgery.
Her son, Harnack Dhami, told the Advertiser: “We were still trying to come to terms with what had happened and now we have this to deal with.
“I’m convinced that the ferocity of this attack is to blame for my mum being at death’s door now.
“Doctors have told us the next 48 hours is crucial. At the moment there’s a very real possibility we might lose my mum.
“We’re hoping more surgery to repair a rupture in her heart caused by the heart attack will work but we’ll just have to hope.
“The men that attacked her are still out there and that just makes this even worse.”
Police are appealing for information about the incident in which the gang got away with five bangles Mrs Dhami was wearing, the necklace from around her neck that had been passed down to her by her mother, and £24 in cash.
The four men were white and aged betwen 18 and 21. One was wearing a blue hat or cap.
