Wheelie bin arsonists attack Jacksdale home
ARSONISTS caused a blaze at a house in Jacksdale over the weekend using a wheelie bin they had set on fire.
Two brothers in their early twenties had to be evacuated from the house in Sedgewick Street by firefighters at about 4.50am on Sunday.
Fire crews from Eastwood and Ashfield fire stations were joined by appliances from Derbyshire to tackle the blaze. Both occupants escaped from the burning building without any serious injuries.
A firefighter from Ashfield station who attended the scene said it looked 'pretty suspicious'.
"It looked as if the wheelie bin had been torched and pushed up against the house," he said.
"The flames then engulfed the house but there seemed to have been more damage to the building from smoke than the flames."
Police said that the incident followed a similar attack on a house in Clifton on Saturday in which a burning bin was pushed up against a door forcing a family of five to escape out of a window.
Anyone with information, or who was in the area at the time, should call Nottinghamshire Police on 0300 300 9999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
