Several Trent Barton employees have been awarded for clocking up 35 years service .

With nearly 250 years’ service between them, the seven workers were presented with awards to mark their long service at the bus company’s head office in Langley Mill.

Health, safety and facilities officer, Richard Woods, was one of those who received an award.

He said: “Working for Trent Barton really is like being part of a big family and I’ve really enjoyed my career here so far.”

The company’s commercial director, Alex Hornby, said the company prides itself on a low staff turnover.

“We really are a close-knit team, and many staff have been with us for several decades.

“Customers often comment that our drivers have become their friends, they’ve known them for so long on the same route.”

One of the main reasons for such staff loyalty is the opportunities for career progression, said Alex.

The company, which employs around 1,000 people, has seen many employees work their way up to management positions.

“The latest group to receive long service awards is drawn from across all areas of the business and includes drivers, managers and an electrician,” Alex said.

Others to collect the award were electrician Michael Abell, operations manager Dave Williams, payroll supervisor Susan Woodruff, and drivers Barry Mousley, Peter Timby, David Whitton.
