This year’s search for the borough’s best shops, pubs, cafes and market stalls, begins next Friday, so get your votes in fast.
There are eight categories for shoppers to vote in before January 4 to see which businesses in Ilkeston and Long Eaton will be crowned top of the shops.
In a twist to this yer’s competition, organisers Erewash Partnership have added a ‘best new town centre business’ award and a special ‘town centre unsung hero’ category, which chairman Simon Woods and chief executive Ian Viles will decide on.
“The partnership is happy to reward and recognise the efforts of new businesses in each town centre and those people who deserve praise for going the extra mile in supporting our town centres,” said project manager Paul Calladine.
The categories to vote on this year are:
Best restaurant, café, or takeaway
Best pint and pub grub; best customer service
Most attractive market stall
Most friendly business to babies and children
Most friendly business to disabled people
Cleanest shop front
Best window display
Businesses are voted for by customers who must give a reason for their nomination.
Each winner will receive a trophy and a certificate.
Cllr Geoff Smith, council lead member for planning and regeneration, said: “Past experience has shown how proud businesses are to have been voted best in their category by the people who matter most.”
Forms are available from town centre businesses, Ilkeston and Long Eaton town halls and here and here
The competition runs from Friday. Forms must be returned to Ilkeston Advertiser, 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston, DE7 8ER or Erewash Partnership at The Old Police Station, Wharncliffe Road, Ilkeston, DE7 5GF by 5pm on January 4.
