Elephants have packed their trunks and are on the way to the circus in this fantastic picture, sent in by Ilkeston man Tony Leivers.
He said the creatures were on their way to a big top on Wash Meadows – better known as Johnny’s playing fields – between the bottom of Rutland Street and Mill Street.
This shot, taken in the first half of the twentieth century, was in Heanor Road.
Tony could supply no more information about the picture.
